Kempton, Sacchetti Join Board of Trustees

Two experienced members of the Cheshire Academy community have joined the Board of Trustees, bringing with them a wealth of knowledge from their fields that will no doubt benefit the school for years to come.

Dr. James Kempton P’20.

At its May meeting, the Board of Trustees elected Dr. James Kempton P’20. An ophthalmologist, Kempton joined the Yale University School of Medicine in 2009, and currently works at the Veteran Affairs Connecticut Healthcare’s West Haven location, as well as the Yale Eye Center in New Haven.

Kempton received his undergraduate degree with honors and completed medical school at The Ohio State University. He later completed two residencies and a fellowship at Yale. Upon completion of his second residency in Ophthalmology at Yale University, Kempton was recognized by the faculty with the Marvin L. Sears Award for Clinical Excellence. Kempton has also completed extensive research on vitreoretinal diseases and surgery, and the systems approaches in the delivery of medical education.

Kempton and his wife, Dr. Jennifer Myer, live in Cheshire. Together, they have two sons; Owen Kempton is a member of CA’s Class of 2020.

Courtney Evans Sacchetti ’93.

During its October meeting, Trustees elected Courtney Evans Sacchetti ’93 to the Board. Sacchetti has a wealth of experience in the field of finance; in January 2023, she was named executive vice president and chief financial officer at Bankwell Financial Group and its subsidiary, Bankwell. She served for six years as director of financial planning and analysis at Bankwell before being named CFO.

Sacchetti received her bachelor’s degree in economics at Union College, and her MBA from Union. She held a long career with GE Capital, starting in the company’s Financial Management Program before serving in various finance and regulatory positions — ending as senior manager of capital forecasting —over her 18-year career there.

Sacchetti lives in Stamford, Connecticut, with her husband, Joe. Her brother, George Evans, is a member of CA’s Class of 1997.
