Why not try out for a play while at Cheshire Academy? Auditions are held for each after school season. We produce comedies, dramas, and musical theater in both full-length and one-act formats. In addition, dancers can gather in our studio for after school classes in both modern dance and ballet, as well as opportunities to perform in our musical theater productions.

Dramatic Arts is an elective available for all grade levels and can be taken multiple times. Students have the opportunity to study acting, tech theater or directing or a combination of any of the following during two-year courses for juniors and seniors:

IB Theatre HL and SL
IB Literature
Performance SL

Afternoon Program

The fall play, winter musical, and spring student-created productions which are usually directed and/or written by students allow students to get involved with the theater in any of the three seasons. There are many opportunities beyond acting in these productions. Students participate in leadership roles such as student directing, drama and vocal coaching, student accompanists, student musical directing, stage management, set construction, tech theater, lighting, and sound design.

Experience Opportunities

Regular trips to Broadway including attendance to Hamilton, School of Rock, Come From Away, Once on This Island and more, as well as trips to The Bushnell, Long Wharf Theater, and Yale Repertory Theater. Multiple Open Mics are held throughout the school year, as well as the popular Spring Talent Show, on-campus workshops including recent ones by the Sea Tea Improv Comedy Troupe and the Fourth Wall Ensemble and showcase performances by IB students.
