Men’s Épée Take Bronze, Four Fencers Rank

The Men’s Épée team of Cheshire Academy Coed Fencing earned bronze at the Connecticut State High School Fencing Team Championships over spring break, with four CA fencers ranking the top 30 at Burton E. Moore Connecticut High School State Championships. 

Eve Raymond ’27, of Cheshire, CT, placed 10th in Women’s Saber and Danny Li ’27, of Shanghai, China, was 21st in Men’s Saber. Naomi Thompson ’27, of Tolland, CT, earned 27th ranking in Women’s Épée, with Sam Brogan ’29, of Wethersfield, CT, placing 30th in Women’s Saber.

The CA Men’s Épée team included: Julian Gobbi ’26, of Easton, CT; Daniel Zhu ’26, of Cheshire, CT; Ian Wawrzeniak ’28, of Durham, CT; and Caleb Tang ’28 of Hong Kong. 

“Earning a bronze medal at the Team State Championships and posting strong individual results at the Individual State Championships are impressive achievements and a testament to our fencers’ dedication, discipline, and competitive spirit,” said Head of School Tom Woelper P’26. “Well done to all on a fine and memorable season. 

Cheshire Academy fencing has been making its mark at the state level in recent years. Beginning in fall 2026, CA will take the sport to the next level with Apogee Fencing at Cheshire Academy, an elite competitive program that pairs world-class coaching with rigorous International Baccalaureate® academics on campus. A select cohort of international fencers will train with a team of coaches led by renowned Yale University coaches, who are currently recruiting for the program.
