Five will head to the college known for its international campuses and co-op learning
Ten seniors from Cheshire Academy were accepted to Northeastern University, ranked the 14th most selective college in the nation by Boston Business Journal. Northeastern accepted just 6.8 percent of the record 98,373 applications it received for the Class of 2028.
“In the increasingly competitive world of higher education, our students continue to find great success in the selective admission process,” said Madeleine Bergstrom, CA’s director of college counseling. “Our students are engaged, curious, and creative, and their academic readiness and talents pair well with the unique educational pathways that Northeastern offer.”
Five of the seniors accepted to Northeastern have decided to attend the Massachusetts college. They are: Anna Bloom of Makati City, Philippines; Marcos “Alex” Chadwick of Darien, CT: Naomi Fallon of Hamden, CT; Jack Silano of Plantsville, CT; and Philip Warren of Old Saybrook, CT.
Known for its unusual co-op system and a network of 13 campuses, Northeastern received a record number of undergraduate applications for 2024-25, which university officials attribute to its expanding global footprint and leadership in experiential learning. While undergraduates may study in Boston, London or Oakland, CA, the university also has campuses in Toronto, Seattle, Vancouver, Charlotte, Miami, and Silicon Valley, among other locations.
The university received 98,373 applications for Fall 2024, up from 64,459 in 2020, an increase of 53% over five years.
Northeastern’s co-op program, the cornerstone of its educational approach for more than 100 years, drew Fallon, who was looking for impressive academics not too far from home. She came to Cheshire Academy in her junior year and dove right into the International Baccalaureate® (IB) Programme, which is known for its rigor, global perspective, and the ways it generates college-level thought, analysis, and communication.
“I believe that the high-level classes, rigorous course work and inclusive community CA fosters as an international school prepared me well,” she said.
