CA Track Star Alexis Holmes ’18 is Olympics Bound

Record-setting sprinter qualifies for the women’s 4×400 in Paris this summer

Professional sprinter Alexis Holmes ’18, Cheshire Academy’s first Division I female track athlete, qualified on May 4 for the Paris 2024 Olympics after anchoring the U.S. women’s 4×400-meter qualifying team.

“Your CA fam is beyond proud and we can’t wait to watch you live out your dreams this summer in Paris!” Cheshire Athletics posted on Instagram.

The former Hamden resident and 2022 University of Kentucky graduate was part of the US 4×400 relay team that set a World U20 record at the Pan-Am Games in 2019. She also won the gold medal for Team USA at the 2023 World Athletics Championships, where her team again achieved a world record. “Being a woman in track and field is very empowering for me. I pride myself on being a role model for young women, as I know many young girls drop out of sports at a younger age and higher rate than boys,” she said in a recent CA alumni spotlight. “I love being an example of how you can be both strong and feminine, both competitive yet graceful. It’s important for them to see.”

Holmes also shared her advice for her younger self: “Never let anyone tell you that you aren’t good enough, or that your dreams are too big. You can achieve anything you dream with hard work, discipline and dedication!”
