Class of 2018 alums Alexis Holmes (Team USA Olympian) and Tara Lynch (award-winning journalist) joined the CA community to celebrate the Olympic gold medalist
Cheshire Academy on Friday, Nov. 8, celebrated Alexis Holmes Day, with a lively student body Q&A and a football halftime celebration with the 2024 Olympic gold medalist, a Class of 2018 alum.
Holmes’ classmate, four-time Emmy Award-nominated television reporter Tara Lynch ’18, presided over the Q&A in Gideon Welles Dining Commons, where students got a chance to quiz Holmes on her race prep, how Cheshire prepared her for the world stage, and just how much she enjoyed the chocolate muffins that went viral at the Paris Games.
Holmes, a University of Kentucky graduate, was the only American to qualify for the women’s 400-meter finals and won a gold medal as the anchor of the 4x400m relay. She spent the evening at Cheshire serving as honorary Varsity Football captain for the coin toss and receiving a proclamation at midfield during the game.
After an interview with NBC Connecticut on campus in Bowden Hall, Holmes also posed for photos with fans before the game, signing dozens of copies of the Fall 2024 issue of 1794 Magazine, which features her on the cover. Lynch, who was the Class of 2018 valedictorian and is a general assignment reporter for WJZ in Baltimore, took time out to pose for photos and answer questions from Cheshire marketing student-interns, who made a video of the day.
