NAME THE CAT 2026

You made history with us...

We invited students, families, faculty, staff, and alumni to vote on the official mascot name for the Cheshire Academy Cat through a March Madness-style bracket. Eight finalist names competed head-to-head over five weeks, with the winner revealed live at opening Convocation on September 7, 2026.

BOWDIE WINS!

Announced at Cheshire Academy’s Convocation Ceremony on Monday, Sept. 7, 2026.

Speaking to a large crowd of students, faculty and staff, parents and families, alumni, and community members, Head of School Tom Woelper P’26 announced the naming of The Cat, Cheshire’s mascot. While the Cat has been around since the 1950s, it has never had a formal name. Thousands in the Cheshire Academy community – students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends – voted on several possible monikers over the summer, narrowing it down to the chosen few. A cheer went up when Woelper announced the winner: Bowdie – for Bowden Hall, the oldest schoolhouse in continuous use in Connecticut, and the Rev. John Bowden, the Academy’s first head.
