Chill Out! Cheshire Academy takes time for student wellness on new Community Weekend
The entire Cheshire Academy family learned ways to promote self-care and build community during Health and Wellness Weekend. One of five Community Weekends planned throughout the academic year, the three days of programming offered students, faculty, and staff time to unplug and unwind around campus and beyond.
Students joined a fun goat yoga session at Bradley Mountain Farm in Southington, played friendly games of badminton and kickball, learned about healthy snacks and sports nutrition, and hiked through Sleeping Giant State Park. Others chose to learn self-defense and tried their hand at rock painting, crocheting, making their own fidgets, and nature-based journaling.
“The theme of our Health and Wellness Weekend was ‘self-care,’” said Kylah Arias, director of counseling. “The purpose and goal of the weekend was to provide students with an opportunity to explore, identify, and practice different ways to care for their mental, physical, social, and emotional well-being so they can be their best selves.”
Cheshire Academy’s Community Weekends transcend the traditional academic experience and contribute to the development of a stronger, more inclusive school environment. Required for both faculty and students, these enriching events bolster the core values that define us: a sense of belonging, active engagement, collaborative spirit, and personal and collective growth.
There are three more Community Weekends in the 2024-25 academic year: International Weekend, Jan. 24-26; Diversity, Equality, Inclusion and Justice Weekend, Feb. 14-16; and Sustainability and Community Service Weekend, March 28-30.
