Cheshire Academy Seniors “Celebrate the Yes” to College Decisions

Cheshire Academy College Decision Day

Personalized College Counseling Guides Students to ‘Right-Fit’ Decisions to Impressive List of Top Schools

Cheshire Academy celebrated its seniors and postgraduates on Friday, May 1, with the annual Celebrate the Yes party, followed by a fun day of outdoor games, a special lunch, and the annual Faculty/Students Basketball Game, organized by the Student Council. The day was announced as a Head of School Holiday, thanks to the Academy’s leader, Tom Woelper P’26.

“Today was one of my favorites of the whole year,” Woelper said. “It’s the joyous culmination of years of self-discovery, research, study, completing applications and essays, and wishing, hoping, and waiting. I want to congratulate both our seniors and our excellent College Counseling professionals who helped guide every student to their ‘right fit’ for the next leg of their journey.”

Graduating students sported T-shirts, hats, and hoodies from their chosen colleges, taking time out to enjoy decision day before a final month of classes, tests, and presentations before Commencement.

“This time of year is a time of many emotions!” said Madeleine Bergstrom P’29, director of College Counseling. “We are so excited to see where our students are choosing to go after a long, sometimes hard, application process. We are feeling a little sad to see them go, but mostly incredibly proud and thrilled at the myriad options our students have.”

Every senior had at least one college option, with some having many to choose from, as they make plans for next year, she said. The growing matriculation list again showcases the wide variety of interests, educational goals, aspirations, and the true diversity of CA students. The full matriculation list is still being finalized, with some graduating Cats considering their final choices this month.

Our admission friends often compliment the preparedness of our students during college fairs, one-on-one meetings, campus visits, and certainly in their applications,” Bergstrom saidAnecdotally, we hear often from admissions and alumni that the IB has taught our students how to write, think critically, and navigate their first year of college well. Acceptance wise, the acceptance rates are still wild!

The acceptance rate is also a testament to CA’s comprehensive four-year college counseling process, which ensure students discover their interests and identify and apply to schools that match their strengths and goals.

By May 1, CA students had committed to such varied schools as Northeastern University, the US Air Force Academy, Georgia Institute of Technology, IEU Madrid, and the UCLA. Many members of the Class of 2026 were recruited for athletics and committed to playing for college teams throughout the academic year.

Celebrate the Yes is one of several celebrations of the students’ achievements. The class started the year with a Senior Sunrise on Simosa Field and will finish with a Senior Sunset near the end of their 100 Days Countdown to Commencement. This year, graduating seniors and PGs were invited to add their names in white to “The Rock,” a large boulder on Sevigny Field painted in CA blue. The Rock will be painted each year for seniors to adorn with CA pride.
