Cheshire Academy Reignites Community Tradition with Lights of Hope Event

Community invited to experience luminaries, support local charities on December 17

CHESHIRE, CT – Cheshire Academy is bringing back a cherished community tradition this December with the return of Lights of Hope, an evening event that celebrates service, unity, and the power of giving back.

A Beloved Tradition Returns

Inspired by the original Lights of Hope event run by the Walsh family from 2005 to 2022, Cheshire Academy invites the local community to walk or drive through campus on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2025, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. to experience luminaries displaying symbols of hope. The centerpiece will feature the word “hope” illuminated and translated into multiple languages, reflecting the school’s diverse, global community.

Student leaders will welcome visitors with complimentary hot chocolate and candy canes, creating a warm, inclusive atmosphere for all attendees.

Supporting Our Community

All donations collected during the evening will benefit two vital local organizations: the Petit Family Foundation and the Cheshire Community Food Pantry.

The Petit Family Foundation, led by its president Dr. William Petit, Jr., who serves on Cheshire Academy’s Board of Trustees, funds programs that support STEM education initiatives, health and nutrition, violence prevention, youth mentorship, and more.

The Cheshire Community Food Pantry provides essential food assistance and support to families and individuals in need throughout the Cheshire area, serving as a critical resource for community members facing food insecurity.

These partnerships reflect the deep connections between the school and the community it serves.

The event honors both the legacy established by Don and Jen Walsh and Cheshire Academy’s enduring commitment to service, embodied in the school’s motto, Ich Dien — “I serve.” The original Cheshire’s Lights of Hope raised over $1.25 million for scholarships and charitable causes over 18 years, making a profound impact on the community before concluding in 2022.

Led by Students, Embraced by Community

The event is organized by Cheshire Academy faculty, staff, and students, with special leadership from the Class of 2026 — the final class to have participated in the original Lights of Hope tradition as young community members.
