STUDENT HEALTH & SUPPORT

Cheshire Academy is dedicated to providing resources for student health and wellbeing. With the round-the-clock availability of nurses, counselors, and an off-site medical director, your child’s health and safety are assured.

RICHMOND HEALTH CENTER

The Richmond Health Center is a licensed infirmary open to students seven days a week and is staffed by a professional team of registered nurses, a pediatric nurse practitioner, two certified athletic trainers, and three school counselors.

A nurse and school counselor as well as an off-site medical director are on-call at all times. The health center coordinates appointments with medical specialists and provides transportation for our students. Several large hospitals are located nearby for students if they require emergency care or hospitalization. Our director of counseling coordinates any mental health services that are needed for our students.

For non-emergencies, anyone needing assistance should call or email questions or concerns to the Richmond Health Center directly, during our normal hours of operation. Contact the Administrator on Duty (203-627-0145) if you need to contact the on-call nurse or counselor with any urgent medical issue during evening and weekend hours when the health center is closed.

COUNSELING AND WELLNESS CENTER

Our mission is to provide a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment that empowers students to thrive emotionally, socially and academically.

The wellness center has a collaborative approach with students and families, valuing the parent partnership in supporting students. Day and Boarding students can visit the counseling and wellness center for a variety of reasons. The Counseling and Wellness Center supports students through the daily stressors of being a student and an adolescent. These include but are not limited to, peer relationships, romantic relationships, roommate conflicts, and daily concerns. If students have a greater need for therapy beyond our capacity, they will be referred to a therapist within our community to better suit their needs.

We focus on the traditional SEL framework that helps students to gain self-awareness, self-management skills, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making.

The goal of the wellness center is to support the mental and emotional wellbeing of the community. We offer short term counseling support, immediate 24/7 crisis support (both internally and through our partnership with Uwill), assistance with referrals to outside providers as needed, conflict resolution, and education on how to best care for your individual wellbeing.
Everyone is welcome in the wellness center! Students can use the lounge space during any of their free time.

Students can walk-in or schedule an appointment through the portal.

Cheshire Academy partners with Uwill, the leading mental health and wellness solution for students, to enhance our counseling capabilities with expanded counseling and crisis connections. Uwill technology facilitates immediate appointments with licensed mental health counselors based on your needs and preferences and offers you direct connection to therapists trained in trauma.

Through Uwill, you can book a teletherapy appointment in minutes and talk at a time that suits your schedule in a setting you prefer – video, chat, or message. You also have free access to on-demand wellness programming, including yoga, meditation, mindfulness, and more.

If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, call 833-646-1526 for help 24/7/365 (for a medical emergency, call 911). If you are a Cheshire Academy student and would like to book a teletherapy appointment, visit the app.
