Alexis Holmes ’18 to Compete in the 400m, 4×400 Relay
Cheshire Academy Class of 2018 track star Alexis Holmes is having a well-deserved moment in the spotlight as she goes for the gold at the Paris Olympics. Alexis will represent the USA in the women’s 400 and the 4×400 relay in the coming weeks.
ABC News Channel 8 was on campus recently to highlight her time at CA, where she was captain of the volleyball, basketball, and track teams. Some of the former Hamden resident’s CA records still stand today.
CA fans have been watching Alexis in the walk-up to the Games, as she’s been featured all over the news and on social media ever since her hope of making the Olympic team became reality this spring.
Alexis is scheduled to compete in the first round of the women’s 400M at 5:55 a.m. (EDT), Aug. 5 with the potential for two more rounds before that race’s final at 2 p.m. (EDT), Aug. 9. She will take to the track in Round 1 of the 4X400 at 4:40 a.m. (EDT), Aug. 9. The medals for that contest will be decided on 3:22 p.m. (EDT), Aug. 10.
“Your CA fam is beyond proud and we can’t wait to watch you live out your dreams this summer in Paris!” Cheshire Athletics posted on Instagram after the University of Kentucky runner successfully anchored the 4×400 team in its bid for an Olympic berth.
Alexis and her team will be hard to beat: She was part of the US 4×400 relay team that set a World U20 record at the Pan-Am Games of 2019. She also won the gold medal for Team USA at the 2023 World Athletics Championships.
When CA asked for advice she would have given her younger self, she didn’t skip a beat: “Never let anyone tell you that you aren’t good enough, or that your dreams are too big. You can achieve anything you dream with hard work, discipline and dedication!”
