FITNESS AND TRAINING
Cheshire Academy’s Athletics Department is committed to helping students practice good habits of health and safety in sports. Our athletic trainers work closely with students to help them avoid injury and take an active role in their rehabilitation when injuries do occur. The athletic training room is located in the weight room of the Arthur Sheriff Field House.
ATHLETIC TRAINERS
Athletic trainers are board certified health professionals who work with professional sports team, colleges, and secondary schools, as well as in rehabilitative and industrial settings. In the state of Connecticut, athletic trainers are not only certified by the National Athletic Training Association’s Board of Certification (NATABOC), but are also licensed health care professionals. Certified athletic trainers (ATC) must earn a bachelor’s degree, pass a board exam, and pursue continuing education to practice. Athletic trainers are a part of a sports medicine team and work under the supervision of a physician. They work intensively in the areas of prevention, evaluation, and rehabilitation of injuries, as well as health care administration and professional development.
