VISUAL ARTS
Here, students can study painting, drawing, design, and sculpture; they can explore technical and aesthetic challenges; venture into ceramics, or design their own fashion show as an Art Major. Take advantage of a personal year-round studio space and discover artistic passions — we have all the tools to help.
At Cheshire Academy, there are no prerequisites and no restrictions; we provide you with space, tools, and independence to work and grow both recreationally and studiously. Within our department, we encourage you to apply the visual arts contextually to the world around you. Drawing from both contemporary art and art history, you’ll develop an understanding of the elements and principles of art and design such as composition, color, and perspective.
Whether you wish to pursue art in college or simply need a creative outlet, we have the flexibility, resources and time to help you discover new talents. Importantly, you’ll develop more confidence in your abilities to express yourself in new and exciting ways.

Art Major
The Art Major program is a yearlong course designed primarily for seniors who are advanced art students with a keen interest in attending art school, or are considering majoring in art or design at the university level.
As a part of the Art Major program, each student is provided with a personal workspace and any materials deemed necessary to complete a project. The entire Art Department and its resources are accessible to the Art Major student, including the digital lab, ceramics room, and printmaking equipment. Each student works independently on projects of great personal interest with the goal of developing a strong portfolio that will showcase that student’s talents and individuality and best improve their chances of admission into their school of choice.
In the past few years, Cheshire Academy Art Major students have been accepted to, and are currently enrolled at, the Carnegie Mellon University School of Architecture, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Parsons School of Design | The New School, the Rhode Island School of Design, Maryland Institute College of Art, Pratt Institute, Syracuse University, Boston University, Montserrat College of Art, New York University Tisch School of the Arts, and the Savannah College of Art and Design.
