Student-Athletes ink NLIs on National Signing Day

Three Cheshire Academy student-athletes signed their national letters of intent on Nov. 13, National Signing Day, at the school’s college counseling office.

Asa Beyah ’20 is headed to Canisius College to play men’s basketball. Owen Kempton ’20 will play men’s soccer at Northeastern University, and Fabi McLeod ’20 will play women’s lacrosse at University of New Haven.

“Cheshire Academy has given me, in the classroom, the tools to learn,” said Kempton, a four-year student at the Academy. “I learned not just how to work hard, but how to work smart. That’s something I’ll definitely take through college and through life. Athletically, CA has given me the opportunity to play in front of college coaches and become a better player.”

Kempton, a goalie for the Cats, is a three-time Western New England Prep School Soccer Association all-star. He was selected to play in last year’s New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Junior All-Star Game and earned all-state honors.

Beyah, a guard, earned NEPSAC Class AA honorable mention accolades last year as a junior.

“Playing in the NEPSAC against some of the top competition in the country prepared me,” Beyah said. “The structure of the school and the workload has helped academically.”

McLeod recorded 125 saves and helped lead the Cats to the Class B Girls’ Lacrosse Invitational Tournament as a junior.

“Cheshire Academy helped with reaching out to coaches and helping me find a school that is the right fit,” McLeod said.

The next National Signing Day will take place on Dec. 18.
