Undefeated fall athletics season takes varsity girls’ soccer to NEPSAC conference

November 18, 2022

What a season! The varsity girls’ soccer team, led by first-year head coach Andrei Popescu, secured the title of conference champions for the 2022-2023 season, finishing the regular season with an impressive 15-0-2 record.

The team had a strong lineup, including many who have committed to playing at the collegiate level. Co-captains Shannon Anderson ’23, Stella Liebler ’23, Delisianna Naccarato ’23, and Madison Olmstead ’23 were backed by countless talented student-athletes, including Rachel Ballard ’24, Danica Furst ’24, Olivia Greene ’24, Isabela Medeiros ’24, Evelina Rini ’24, and many others.

The girls’ record is a dramatic change from last year, when they were only able to secure one win. This year, however, they continued to keep opposing teams on the defensive and were unable to catch up. Highs included their 10-0 win against The Westover School on Sept. 26, 11-0 win against Hamden Hall on Oct. 26 — CA girls’ senior night — and their 7-1 victory against Miss Hall’s School on Oct. 29. Two ties closed out the regular season, once against Suffield Academy (Nov. 9, 2-2), and again the following weekend against Miss Porter’s School (Nov. 12, 0-0).

On Nov. 16, the girls hosted the Brooks School (Northampton, Massachusetts) for the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class B quarterfinals match. Both teams started the game off strong, but Brooks secured an early lead that they would not give up. The final score, a 5-2 loss, did not reflect CA’s dedication and drive on the field, as the girls gave it their all during their toughest game of the season.
