Mike LaSpina is the head coach of the varsity girls’ lacrosse team and earlier headed the junior varsity squad. Prior to Cheshire Academy, he was the founding coach of the girls’ lacrosse program at Sacred Heart Academy, growing it from a club team to a state tournament qualifier.
Mike is also currently in charge of “quality control” for the varsity football team. Previously, he coached wide receivers, tight ends, and linebackers for the varsity team and was the head junior varsity coach. Prior to Cheshire Academy, Mike coached football on the college level at Yale University and Sacred Heart University, and on the high school level at the Hyde Leadership School and the Trinity-Pawling School.
Mike is presently a teacher in the history department, where he teaches Advanced Placement Psychology, Psychology I and II, and International Baccalaureate Economics Standard Level. He has also taught in the mathematics department at Cheshire Academy.
Mike received a bachelor’s degree from Yale College, where he was also a varsity football letterman, and a master’s degree from the Yale School of Management. He graduated from Hamden High School, where he lettered in football and hockey.
