Science Olympiad earns high marks in invitational
January 8, 2021
Members of the Science Olympiad club at Cheshire Academy rounded out their fall 2020 semester on Dec. 12 by participating in a challenging virtual invitational, hosted by North Pocono High School in Pennsylvania.
Seven students competed in the North Pocono Science Olympiad against members from 57 other teams. Competitors have extensive experience in the invitationals; despite the experience and depth of the competition, CA ranked very well in some of the subjects, including 16th in the Designer Genes and 18th in the Circuit Lab and Water Quality events.
CA was represented by Jane Golden ’21, Shreeya Gomathinayagam ’24, James Guo ’22, Peiran Li ’22, Elissa Lilly ’22, Alex Tang ’23, and Raymond Zhong ’23.
Invitationals serve as a way for Science Olympiad teams to participate in tournaments without impacting regional or state advancement or rankings. Rather, they act as tryouts for team members preparing for larger tournaments. CA’s Science Olympiad team will be competing virtually in the Connecticut Science Olympiad state competition on March 6 and March 20.
