Ready, Set, Build!

April 18, 2022

Work has begun on much-anticipated facilities improvements throughout the Cheshire Academy campus.

In the back fields, work is nearing completion of a new all-purpose turf field to the north of the pond. Fencing is installed, the turf is laid, and the dugouts are built. Nearby, three new tennis courts were constructed adjacent to the six that make up the Markin Tennis Center.

The new synthetic turf complex will double as a state-of-the-art softball field and multi-sport turf field for training and competition for the boys’ and girls’ lacrosse and soccer programs, and football practices. A bituminous concrete walk will line the southern and eastern sides of the field.

Replacement of the Simosa Field & Track is also completed, with the center of the new field adorned with the new Cat’s Eye logo, representative of CA’s athletics and student activities sub-brand. Varsity teams, including football and soccer, have already hosted games on the new turf.

These projects are just the first phase of a two-phase initiative. The second phase, slated for completion in March 2024, will result in a new modern space in place of the existing Arthur Sheriff Field House. The new facility will provide space for a new theater, community gathering (such as guest speakers, all-school meetings, and presentations), space for the Community Life Office, student center, and an indoor athletics facility to support varsity, sub-varsity, and recreational practices and competitions.

R.A.D. Sports and Cape & Islands Engineering are the design, engineering, and building firms hired for the first phase of the project. SLR Consulting serves as the civil engineering and landscape architecture firm. Financing was made available through Stifel and Salisbury Bank.
