Manz named CA’s new head basketball and volleyball coach

April 29, 2020

Cheshire Academy has named Morgan Manz as the Cats’ head coach of the varsity girls’ basketball and varsity girls’ volleyball teams. Manz will also be joining CA as a member of the science department faculty.

“I am very grateful to be hired by CA,” reflected Manz. “It is a great opportunity to grow as a teacher and as a coach, especially in a community that embodies so many important qualities from inclusivity to unwavering support. I feel as though I can learn so much from the CA community and also bring some new, exciting ideas to the classroom and the court.”

Manz is a graduate of Quinnipiac University, where she received a Bachelor of Health Science Studies degree, with a minor in psychology. She later received a Master of Science in Education from the University of Pennsylvania. Manz attended Pomperaug High School for two years before transferring to Taft. She played basketball during her entire high school career and brought her talents to QU as a freshman in 2013. She graduated from QU in 2017.

In her senior year, Manz helped Quinnipiac reach the Sweet 16. During the Bobcats game against Miami, Manz hit her career high by landing six three-point shots. “It was an incredible experience, one that you dream about when you are growing up playing basketball. We made it to the tournament and won not one, but two games, and then went on to play against the eventual national champs.”

During her sophomore year, Quinnipiac won the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) conference tournament for the first time since joining the conference. She also went out to Stanford for the NCAA tournament, and played the University of Oklahoma.

Manz looks forward to teaching in small classes and building relationships with the school community. “I love Cheshire Academy’s mission and their collective desire to create a learning environment that inspires students to learn to become ‘global citizens.’”

David Dykeman, associate head of school and head coach of the football and baseball programs, said of Manz’s hiring, “We are so excited to welcome Morgan to our community. Morgan brings a wealth of experience from the college and independent school worlds as a player and coach. She will be an amazing mentor and teacher for our student-athletes.”
