Inducted

April 24, 2023

More than 25 students were inducted into the Cheshire Academy chapter of the National Honor Society during the annual ceremony held on Tuesday, April 18.

Held in Richardson Lecture Hall, parents, families, faculty, staff, and classmates celebrated the inductees’ formal joining of the National Honor Society, a prestigious nationwide organization known for members with academic prowess, good character, and dedication to service.

Nick Joaquin, chapter advisor and math department chair, introduced the CA chapter’s officers: Secretary Artan Redzepi ’23, Treasurer Sasha Nikanova ’24, Vice President Devan Fernando ’23, and President Anjali Gururaj ’23.

“Being part of this organization is a reflection of your character, integrity, and dedication to excellence both in and out of the classroom,” Gururaj said. “…NHS provides you with a platform to address challenges that face our society and gives us each a responsibility to ensure we are making this school a place to be proud of. It allows you to express your passions and build a community that will help support and encourage you as you strive to achieve your goals.”

As is tradition, the officers each lit candles that represent the NHS’s four pillars of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Joaquin lit the first candle, which represents the NHS’s torch, the symbol of eternal light of knowledge.

The new inductees represent a wide range of the CA community. They volunteer with local organizations, serve on countless clubs and groups at school, are musicians, athletes, thespians, environmentalists, and so much more.

“In earning induction, you have already shown significant concern for others,” Joaquin said. “You are just starting to figure out how you can follow through on your worries. For now, though, your work is already worthy of many thanks. So, on behalf of the Cheshire Academy community, I say ‘Thank you.’”
