Homecoming Weekend Recap

The Cheshire Academy football team fell 25-21 to Choate in front of a packed house at Simosa Field to cap Homecoming & Family Weekend on Saturday. 

The Cats held a 21-19 lead in the final minutes before Choate scored the go-ahead touchdown. 

Jack Brandon ’21 threw for 160 yards and two touchdowns. Jordan Robinson ’20 caught three passes for 75 yards and a touchdown, and Jackson Parker ’20 hauled in two passes for 65 yards and a score. Jack Roberge added a touchdown in the third on a 4-yard run. 

Cody Keith ’11 was inducted into the Kevin Slaughter Memorial Athletic Hall of Fame during a pregame ceremony. 

 

 

Boys’ Soccer

 

Cheshire Academy 3, Wilbraham & Monson 1: Omesi Abulu ’20 scored twice and added an assist in the Cats win over Wilbraham & Monson at Simosa Field on Saturday’s Senior Day. 

Abraham Attah ’21 also scored for Cheshire Academy. Hazar Demirkol ’20 and Russell Tevie ’20 chipped in with assists. Owen Kempton finished with six saves. The Cats led 2-0 at the half.

 

Field Hockey

 

Cheshire Academy 1, Marianapolis Prep 0: Paige Bernier ’22 scored the game’s lone goal in the second half to lift the Cats to a win over Marianapolis Prep on Friday at Simosa Field. 

Sarah Greenberg ’20  recorded the assist and Liv Redding ’20 recorded the shutout. Lilly Storer ’21 played well defensively, disrupting the attack of the Marianapolis forwards. Stella Gebhard ’22 dominated the midfield. 

Prior to the game, the team hosted a survivors’ walk for Breast Cancer Awareness.

 

Girls’ Soccer

 

Cheshire Academy 1, Millbrook 1: Reese Purdy ’21 scored as the Cats played to a draw Friday on Senior Night against Millbrook at Simosa Field. Bri Bavaro ’20 made three saves. The Cats outshot their opponent 10-3. 

Hamden Hall 4, Cheshire Academy 3: Three Cats scored in a 4-3 loss on Saturday at Hamden Hall.

Carly Bergeron ’22, Reese Purdy ’21 and Emma Klinge ’20 all recorded goals for Cheshire Academy. Bri Bavaro ’20 made nine saves.   

 

Cross Country

 

Cats place third: Cheshire Academy competed at its last home meet of the season against Gunnery and Pomfret.

Gunnery came in first, Pomfret placed second and CA finished third in both the boys and girls races.

For the CA boys, juniors Tony Wang and Logan Shvartsman finished 7th and 8th, respectively, separated by just over 1 second (20:58.69 and 20:59.97). Freshman Angel Mazzetti finished 11th with a time of 21:12.19. In total, eight CA boys had personal best times.

For the CA girls, freshman Gabby Medeiros came in 9th place with a time of 26:17.60, junior Joy Pan came in 11th place with a time of 26:23.79 and senior Kayla Wai came in 13th place with a time of 26:32.12. Four of o girl runners had PRs.
