Artist Reception – Barry and Holly Keller: Collographs
March 28, 2019, 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Location: Kohn-Joseloff Gallery
Both of us have had a long interest in the visual arts, Holly as the author and illustrator of numerous children’s books, Barry as a serious hobbyist during decades of pediatric medical practice. In our retirement, with access to a printing studio, we have concentrated on collagraph printmaking.
Collagraphs are essentially collages which are sealed with acrylic, inked, and printed on damp, heavy paper on a large bed press. The press transfers the ink to the paper and simultaneously embosses the image into the paper resulting in the unique appearance of collagraph prints. We construct our printing plates using heavy cardboard as a support and then glue to the surface thinner pieces of cardboard, textured papers, grit, string, fabrics, and a variety of found objects. Sometimes we carve lines into the support. In addition to the use of colored inks, we sometimes add paint or colored pencils to the dried prints.
