A healthy pond
October 24, 2022
Approximately 85 students participated in the International Baccalaureate® (IB) Group 4 project, which is for students enrolled in science and computer science IB classes.
Split into two groups, students conducted research at the Cheshire Academy library, looking into what a healthy pond ecosystem looks like. The other group waded into the pond with probes, test kits, nets, and other sampling tools to put their research to the test and to understand the ecosystem of the back pond. The groups then switched locations halfway through the morning.
Students involved are currently enrolled in IB Sports, Exercise, and Health Science, High Level (HL) or Standard Level (SL) Physics 2, HL/SL Biology 2, HL/SL Chemistry 2, and SL Computer Science. Check out Cheshire Academy’s academic curriculum for more information on these and other IB classes.
Now that the data has been compiled and analyzed, students will be submitting letters to Head of School Julie Anderson P’19,’23 and the Board of Trustees, reporting on the health of the pond and ways in which it can be improved.
